11/12 notch- 'To Kill a Mockingbird' on the big screen once again

One of the most powerful and influential movies is making it's way back to theatres.'To Kill a Mockingbird' which stars Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, will be in theatres Thursday Nov. 15th 2012.
Whether you have seen it or not it is a wonderful opportunity to see this gem on the big screen. Mr. Peck won best actor for his performance. He was quoted as saying it was one of his favorite roles. He mentioned how the film (based on Harper Lee's pulitzer prize winning novel) brings you back to childhood. It has life lessons that should be treasured and guarded.
I have included my poem, a letter to Atticus, it touches on the impact of this film. I was 13 when I first saw it. It is the films 50th anniversary.

Dear Atticus

Dear Atticus, I have admired you for years,

I will always remember the powerful silence you displayed on the porch,

I could see from your example that strength comes from a man’s inner self,

We need to do the right thing come what may…

Others may hate us, they may spit in our face, they may threaten our children…

They may go as far as to harm them…

This cannot alter our course; the true hero must remain a constant…

The loneliness will not show to the children, firm as a rock will be the demeanor,

Justice for all men is the goal, defend them you will,

The gift of the simple one will be graciously accepted… the life of your children,

“Stand up Miss Jean Louise, your father’s passing” that is what was said in the balcony of the court house…

I stand up for you now…

Thank you Atticus Finch, thank you for helping a young boy to see what a real man should act like,

I have taken it with me into manhood.
