Two poems from 'White Night' to honor the Children

     Young Girl of Melancholy

The young girl of melancholy,

Somehow makes my life a folly.

I remember her face, her smile out of place,

It makes our world a disgrace.

How can our young our innocent have such gloom?

I began to look in every room,

There it was, it had spread, it was dread.

Childhood should be full of wonder,

It should welcome the chance to blunder.

Children should laugh, they should giggle,

It is not from life they should wriggle.

          Our Fold

A child should not be cold,

To keep him warm is not bold,

We, none of us should have to be told,

Our children are part of our fold,

Do we not want to see them grow old?

They, each of them have the right,

To be nurtured, to see us fight,

Yes we must keep their future in sight…

We may not feel strong, yet use our might,

Yes all of our strength…

We should go to any length,

Our children are a gift…

Not one of them should we sift.
