Migrant Worker
I am a migrant worker,
I have crossed the border with my self esteem,
The migration season has run long…
In fact the years have passed,
The count has been lost,
I am viewed by the natives of this land as a nuisance,
My face and skin are seen en masse with others like me,
They believe we share the same identity, the same soul;
They cannot see that I love my children;
They are unaware of the nuances in my relationship with my wife,
Yes there is passion between us; we do long for each-other,
Oh yes my love has a favorite fragrance,
When I smell it in her absence I pine.
I was not born in this land, I am none the less a man…
I watch the sunrise, I gaze in awe…
I watch the ocean glisten in the sunlight…
I feel the warmth on my face,
Yes the sun gives my face a glow…
If you look close at the lines of my face you will see…
I look like me; I am an individual…
I am a man like any other man…
