Lantern
I remember the approach in the night,
some five hours of highway.
Tony Bennett and Andy Williams sang along…
There was a Lake out there in the darkness;
We were to exercise our youth tomorrow.
In the night however, there was the glow of amber,
This amber was connected to the lanterns.
These lanterns connected us to the past;
they connected us to tomorrow,
to the swimming and the row boats on the Lake…
Still as I gazed from the back of the old “Country Squire” wagon I knew;
I just knew that the amber lanterns stood for something.
They were a testament to all the children of the past;
They welcomed the children of the future.
For the moment, a fleeting moment,
The amber said: tomorrow you will see the Lake,
you will enjoy your youth be it so brief…
