Skipper/Scupper
I thought they said I could assist the Skipper,
What an opportunity: to be right there in the pilot house,
Maybe I could man the wheel; help navigate the voyage….
Then I was taken to the scuppers; they gave me a mop and a poncho…
Seems that a few letters had changed my life…
Skipper/scupper; had I known I may have said no.
Swab the deck in the cold cold rain, out there in the elements,
There is no glory there… with the scuppers,
Then I thought: I’m still on the boat…
I will arrive when the skipper arrives,
So really; it is all a matter of perspective…
If you’re on the boat… that seems to be the important part…
