Sorry Marvin
I am sorry Marvin, our world has not changed...
Excuse me, it has gotten worse.
I heard you singing about "the ecology" in my tender teen years,
I knew it was important then; yet I was distracted with youth,
I don't know where to start...
Excuse me, yes I do: the Gulf Coast.
The "black gold" has become the black plague,
Marvin, it's pouring out - a mile down!
"Oil wasted on the ocean", that's what you lamented in song...
O Marvin, millions of gallons are pouring out,
You would not believe it...
I see fishermen crying; I am crying...
People stand around and chatter while pelicans are covered with goo...
They say the black plague will reach New England...
It has indeed ravaged man and animal already.
O Marvin, I wish you were here to sing once more...
We heard the music; we did not get the message...
I'm sorry Marvin; I wish I had listened...
All I can say is "Mercy, Mercy Me"...
