Department of Police
I think it was in SoHo; we love the city, just to walk…
Look at the trees; locusts, ginkgo, London plane,
Check out the lampposts, the ironworks…
How many bricks did it take to build that beauty?
We wondered who lived in the penthouse,
Then it happened; it was colossal, magnificent!
The stone work; the sculptures, lions, yes, lions!
The building just kept on going…
Filling up city blocks as no building I ever saw…
I was looking for a name, an address; some revelation…
Then I saw it! ‘Department of Police’, police?
How could it be so amazing? Where were the police?
We didn't see one; did they still use this great building?
Then I was told: “it is a residence now”
“Really, who lives here?”
“Famous people, you know, actors, lawyers, stock brokers”…
O the irony;
I wondered: “were they residents when it was still used by the police?”
I thought maybe they bought them out,
I don’t mean to label people, but given the history…
I do believe some of them feel right at home…
At ‘The Department of Police’…
