       I Dressed To Die Today

 

Please don't fret from the title,
Believe me, it's a noble theme.
I did not intend or plan my death.
I just left my house with a thought:
I realized that any day can be the last.
So as I locked the house and entered my truck,
I made an assessment of myself ;
I asked, have you given your all to your kids?
Have you been loyal to your wife?
Do you cherish your grands?
Have you been an honest merchant?
Do you value and love all men?
Has your Creator been your priority?
I felt quite an affirmative feeling...
I looked at my clothes and pondered my soul ,
It's when I gazed at my boots that it hit me:
I have done as well as I could,
I think I am dressed for it...
I don't want it, yet I think I am ready...
