Cyclical Leaves
Is it true that the leaves that fell last fall will feed the trees?
If that is the case it would seem the leaves become leaves…
That would make me right; you know, when I told my mom:
“We don’t need to rake them up; it’s good for the trees”.
Twelve year old logic that was; trying to get out of work…
What though if it were two years between fall and summer?
It would seem to me that my recycle plan might work…
That would give plenty of time for all the leaves to become leaves,
What if that span of time was still counted as one year?
That would make one of our years more than twice as long…
Suppose we could count them as we do now,
It would be as if seventy were two hundred,
Ah, but it would not stave off the inevitable...
A man is not a tree, with leaves and such,
A man is an individual, unique to himself, one of a kind…
You cannot recycle a man; as long as he lives he will be himself,
When he falls he does not become someone else,
Dust is what he becomes…
There is One who can reconfigure this dust;
It would behoove us all to seek this One…
Remember, a man is not like cyclical leaves…
