Many of the old New England homes in our area have very large and ornate cast iron radiators; it is often thought that the best thing to do is to scrap these as an attempt for economy. But wait! Some of these radiators are works of art, they add charm to the home. There are ways to economize the heating system without scrapping these beautiful, olde ,well, artifacts. If you look at some of the castings on these units you will understand a lost era. One of craftmenship and articulate detail. To replace an average sized radiator would cost over $1000.00!
Do the math, an average house has over $15,000.00 worth of these radiators. Also, as many may know, they give off a beautiful well balanced heat. I am a nostalgic sort, you have to admit these olde radiators have a charm that cannot be replaced. Those of you that still have them in service, enjoy those artful well crafted relics, those who have inherited them recently : "Think before you scrap those old Cast Iron Radiators"!
Thanks, JJ
