Why ask that question? The leading cause of house fires in the U S A is the vent on clothes dryers. The most common floods that occur in homes are caused by the water hoses serving washing machines- thus the question! What to do?
The dryer: Be certain that the material used to vent the dryer meets the manufacturer's
requirements; Be sure that there are no kinks or twists in the vent pipe and that it does
not exceed the distances allowed ( this will cause inefficient operation and may cause a fire)
Regularly clean and inspect the vent pipe, that is the best defence.
The washing machine: replace the common rubber hoses with steel braided type "no- burst".
The name says it all. Be sure to turn off water valves when not in use. ( there is now auto-
matic type valve that shuts itself off, leave a note or give me a call if you are interested).
You know the laundry never goes away; you can eliminate these laundry room threats by using the gudelines provided by the appliance company and helpful hints herein.
