As of January 2014 the state of Connecticut has adopted the federal standards for lead free plumbing fixtures and fittings. All potable water systems must use these products. This is the responsibility of the plumbing contractor.The supply house's have turned over their stock to meet the code. It is easy to follow this code because the manufacturers have done the necessary changes. It has caused an increase in cost, (why should we expect otherwise).It is for the benefit of all as lead is very dangerous, especially for the young and expectant mothers. If you are worried about your plumbing system it is easy to have lead tested. Take it to a local water testing lab. This should be a common practice for those who have wells, altough even city water systems can be screened as old plumbing systems have more lead in them.
It is a good law and it will help maintain the highest standards for our drinking water, something we should not take for granted.
