One of the most desirable features of a home is to have multiple bathrooms.Why? Well plain and simple, convenience. I raised two daughters, lovely ones I should say. I have an endearing wife, however, when I moved into my ca 1941 Hamden colonial there was only 1 full bath, meaning only one shower, for 4 people! I quickly looked for a remedy.
Before I reveal this remedy I would like to give my opinion on why 1 full bath was fine in 1941. Life was much slower then, simpler. This I have been told from those who raised families then. The home I live in was just about 1400 square feet when built, I have since added a den and an office attic. Folks back in the forties really lived in the 'living rooms'. They would sit by the fire, talk, read, and listen to the old 'wireless' radios. There were no electronic gadgets, TV's , computers , I phones. It must have been much less hectic and rushed.One shower, so what, at least it was indoors, with hot water!
Now though we all have to get going and fast. That is why we need the showers. I was able to turn my small 1/2 bath into a full bath by using the mop closet and fitting in a neo angle shower stall. I must admit, it was a very good move. Even now with just my wife and I it proves very useful.
I recently worked on a new bathroom that was planned by some very inventive folks.They had a screened porch off the den of their colonial that was rarely used.There was only one full bath in this home as well. That screened porch has been transformed into a beautiful full bathroom that will have years of use! I actually enjoyed being a part of the process. The cost of this endeavor will pay for itself in the value it has brought to the home. I say bravo to these homeowners.
