With all the many storms and old infrastructure on the power grid there has been a wide increase of generator
installations. Some hints and warnings on this subject. Never attempt to do it yourself. it could cause death and destruction of property if not done right. If you ever use a portable generator remember the fumes cannot be in or near your home. The carbon monoxide is a killer and silently does so. Even the whole house generators give off carbon monoxide. This is why you need the town building inspector to be involved. Also your first call should be to the Gas Co. They have to get a survey of all the gas usage in your home to see if the main and or meter will provide the proper btu's for the generator to operate without causing the appliances to lack supply.
Be sure to call them first. Also get only licensed and insured highly reccomended contractors. Check prices as they vary. It is usually best to get 3 estimates. As always be very careful to use common sense and thoroughly plan for a safe generator install.
