There once was a woman who had lifetime gutters installed on her home. Three years or so later there was a failure in the gutter system. She was so pleased to have a "lifetime warranty". She called the contractor, who to her dismay said," I am no longer in the gutter business". The brand gutter she had purchased was also no longer available.
Does this sort of thing happen in plumbing? Sure it does, so the "buyer beware" cliche applies. It is best to use major brand names when purchasing plumbing fixtures. Most of them offer and honor "lifetime warranties". Please remember some of the flaws associated with these warranties. You do have to wait for parts to be mailed to you, this may render you're fixture unusable till it arrives. Recently I had the experience of a major brand sending the wrong part twice! In this case the proper model numbers were submitted and still not matched. The manufacturers web site was wrong! I also had the same brand provide two defective faucets back to back to the same customer for the same sink! Why is this a problem? The labor cost.
Labor charges do apply when repairing lifetime fixtures, as you know the plumber must be paid. It is best to buy the most reliable faucets and fixtures to keep these costs to a minimum. It is good to review choices on line as you would a car or a major appliance, remember: people like to complain about a bad product and rave about a good one. It's human nature. So get the lifetime warranty and hope you never need to use it!
