| It may not be on our minds a lot; however the chimney in our home is vital to the safety and operation of heating equipment and fireplaces. We need to be sure there are no cracks or breeches in the masonry, that there is a proper draft to exhaust the fumes from burners and wood burning. It makes good sense to hire a reputable chimney contractor to check things out; also to sweep and clean the flue, especially so for wood burning. The more you burn the more often it should be cleaned. It is good practice to be certain about your chimney. Make sure you have working CO detectors and smoke alarms.
