One of my most loyal and longest running customers had an awful experience recently. He has commuted from New York City to southern CT. for many years every weekend. It was at his old family homestead, to be able to see friends in the area and visit his usual stops. One particular Saturday he arrived at the homestead only to be greeted by the smell of natural gas. A very greedy person thought it would be nice to steal the copper pipe out of the house, while he was doing this he pulled on a live copper tube thus severing it and causing the house to fill up with gas. He just fled from the scene knowing that it could actually cause the dwelling to explode, possibly even killing someone.
Can you even imagine that? In all my years as a plumber this is the most callous thing I ever saw, for a few dollars this person risked the life of a fellow human and could have destroyed an entire home.
Please remember: always leave a dwelling that has the smell of natural gas, use a neighbor’s phone and call 911. As far as the criminal who stole the copper; please seek help…
Thanks, JJ
